Neck pain from Texting

It was easy to see it coming. Coined as “Text Neck” by a Florida Chiropractor, the upper spinal syndrome known to DCs as “Forward head posture” is back with a vengeance, and worse than ever. The itty bitty electronic marvels that have so many addicts also require strained postures guaranteed to cause spinal damage.
“A study that was performed a few years ago found that for every inch the head was shifted forward off center, it actually increases the weight and the demand on the spine by 10 pounds,” said Adam Tanase, a chiropractor in St. Louis, Mo. “So just a head shifted forward an extra inch to an inch and a half, is going to be applying 20-25 pounds of extra pressure around the neck area which is essentially like wearing a truck tire around the neck.”
Initially the damage is caused by reversing the natural neck curve which causes muscle stress. As this becomes chronic, degenerative change sets in and puts the user on a path to permanent arthritis.
The great news is, this is preventable and correctable even if already started.
Dr. Cederstrom has a long history of correcting spinal curves for Auto Crash Victims, Carpal Tunnel sufferers and Computer office workers, as well as trade workers such as Carpenters. His experience in gently correcting the spine, restoring muscles to normal function and giving the patient appropriate corrective exercises and ergonomic training can completely (well, almost) eliminate the problem
I have been reviewing some of the recomendations for care of this problem. Not all of them are good. Holding the device to eye level is an improvement, but not a solution. Improving posture during use is a great idea, but won’t correct damage already done.
Call for an appointment and be prepared for correction and comfort!
